How to Enable the Hidden Android 6.0 System UI Tuner


Android 6.0 is out on many devices and certainly has a lot of new features. The System UI Tunes were first introduced in Android m’s preview 1 and 2 is now back again. Although this feature is hidden away in Marshmallow and you can’t just see the feature in the Settings app.  In this article we will teach you how to enable the Hidden Android 6.0 System UI.

When it comes to customization, no one can beat Android. From System UI to CPU you can tweak and make changes in almost everything.


Android 6.0 Marshmallow is the by far the finest Android Update. Just like Developer Options cannot be found in the Settings App, you can’t find System UI as well. We have to manually enable it on our Android device’s. By enabling the System UI in your device you can easily customize the way quick settings and status bar icons look, which earlier required rooting and flashing.

Why are the features hidden?

The hidden features are for testing purpose. Although they are stable, they aren’t for public release. These features may or may not be incorporated in future. Hence, they are hidden. They also differ from Beta features, as Beta features are released publicly.

What are the features of System UI Tuner in Android Marshmallow 6.0?

System UI Tuner is one of the hidden features in Android 6.0 Marshmallow. But once it’s enabled you can perform the below mentioned customization and changes:

1: Customize Quick Settings

2: Enable ‘Demo Mode’

3: Customize the Status Bar

4: It displays Battery percentage in the battery icon in status bar; when the device is not charging.

Step by Step Guide to Enable the Hidden Android 6.0 Marshmallow System UI Tuner

Step 1: Swipe down the notification panel to access quick settings in Android Marshmallow.

Step 2: Tap and hold the gear icon for about 5 seconds.

Step 3: Within 5 seconds, the gear icon will rotate. Release the hold on the gear icon.

Step 4: You will automatically be directed to the Settings page.

Step 5: A message will pop up on the screen: ‘Congrats! System UI Tuner has been added to Settings.’

Note: If the message doesn’t pop on the screen. There are chances that you release the hold on the gear icon even before it begins to rotate. In this case, you will just be directed to the Settings page. And the System UI Tuner will not be enabled in your Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

Step 6: After the System UI tuner has been successfully enabled. In Settings, scroll down and you can see ‘System UI Tuner’ below ‘About Phone’.

Step 7: That’s it. You can now use the feature.

Note: You can also see whether System UI Tuner has been enabled from the notification panel. When you swipe down the notification panel, next to the gear icon you can see a small wench. This indicates that System UI tuner is enabled in Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
